Andrea has a broad litigation practice, with particular emphasis in administrative and regulatory law, and civil and commercial litigation. Andrea’s litigation experience includes appeals and judicial review applications, administrative and regulatory law, commercial disputes, class actions, defamation and media law, civil sexual assault, intellectual property disputes, employment law and professional discipline matters. She provides practical and strategic advice to clients on complex issues that arise at the intersection of many of those areas.


Andrea represents clients in all levels of court in Ontario, in the Federal Courts, and in a wide variety of tribunals and other administrative decision-making settings. She was a senior member of the team of lawyers who represented the Government of Canada in the Public Order Emergency Commission of inquiry into the Freedom Convoy demonstrations and events that led to the Federal Government’s declaration of a public order emergency in February 2022.


Andrea’s wide-ranging civil and commercial litigation experience includes shareholder disputes, oppression applications, CCAA proceedings, securities class actions, breach of confidence and advisor negligence cases. She also litigates public and constitutional law cases, and is currently lead counsel to the applicant in a constitutional challenge to Ontario’s Security from Trespass and Protecting Food Safety Act, 2019.


Andrea has a particular interest in the application of civil and regulatory law to online activities, including online defamation, digital privacy, and liability for internet- and social media-based harassment and other harms. She is often retained as lead counsel in significant defamation trials and appeals, and has successfully argued several anti-SLAPP motions. Andrea has acted in leading cases involving third-party requests for access to media records.


Andrea’s practice involves significant advisory work. She advises various adjudicative tribunals as independent legal counsel. She conducts and advises on independent investigations, and frequently advises regulators and private entities on regulatory and enforcement matters.


Andrea speaks and writes frequently on various topics relevant to the legal profession and is the co-editor of the Stockwoods Administrative and Regulatory Law Case Review. She co-teaches an advanced seminar course on administrative law that runs in alternating years at the University of Toronto and Western University. From 2012 to 2022, Andrea co-taught administrative law as Adjunct Faculty at Osgoode Hall Law School.
