Hien joined VILAF in 2007. He has extensive experience in litigation and arbitration in various forums including the Vietnamese courts, VIAC and SIAC for 20 years.

He regularly works with several international law firms in the settlement of maritime, commercial, insurance and investment disputes in Vietnam and other jurisdictions.

In addition to dispute resolution, he has also advised a number of multinational and state-owned insurance, pharmaceutical, chemical, electricity, foods and wood manufacturing companies in cross-border M&A transactions, general corporate, employment as well as their day-to-day operations.

Hien was named as a future star by Benchmark Litigation Asia-Pacific 2018 in Commercial and Transactions. He is also named in 2019 as a Next Generation Lawyer by The Legal 500.

Dispute Resolution

  • Advised and represented several foreign investors on shareholders disputes and taking control of their invested companies;
  • Advised international lenders in collecting loan debts from Vietnamese enterprises; and
  • Advised a leading FMCG company in their dispute with the State Audit of Vietnam and the Tax Authorities in relation to CIT amount of USD35 million.

Corporate/M&A

  • Advised Mondelez International in its acquisition of 80% of equity stake in Kinh Do Group’s snack business for USD370 million;
  • Advised Gamuda Land in the acquisition of its Vietnamese partners’ shares in Celadon City Project to become the sole owner of this project. Celadon City is a VND25,000 billion urban development project in Ho Chi Minh City;
  • Advised an investment fund in their investment into ride sharing business in Vietnam;

Employment

  • Represented several companies in labour lawsuits lodged by their employees;
  • Advised several companies on their retrenchment plans and termination of their employees;
  • Assisted several companies in drafting and registering their internal labour regulations;

IP

  • Advised Mondelez Kinh Do in protection of their trademark rights;
  • Advised a global group in protection of their trademark and domain name; and
  • Represented a foreign invested company in a court case against their trademark infringement.
