Dan K. Webb, Co-Executive Chairman of Winston & Strawn, is one of the most distinguished and sought-after trial lawyers in the United States. His trial practice concentrates in the areas of major commercial, civil, regulatory, and white-collar criminal cases. He has tried more than 100 cases and been named to the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers. Dan achieved international acclaim for his successful prosecution of retired Admiral John Poindexter in the Iran-Contra affair. Prior to joining the firm in 1985, he served as the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois.
Dan has spent his entire professional life as a courtroom trial attorney and litigator. He received national attention for his work as lead trial counsel for General Electric, successfully defending it against criminal price-fixing allegations related to industrial diamonds, as well as for his representations of Microsoft Corp. in antitrust litigation, Philip Morris in tobacco-related litigation, and Verizon in obtaining a $58 million verdict in a patent litigation matter. Most recently he represented Beef Products, Inc. in a lawsuit against the American Broadcasting Company, Inc. and other defendants that has been described as “one of the most high-stakes defamation court battles in U.S. history.”
Over the years, Dan has had numerous other courtroom victories in antitrust and product liability class action cases, as well as other complex commercial litigations. His corporate internal investigations experience includes leading the team that conducted an internal investigation at the New York Stock Exchange related to the compensation of its former Chairman and CEO, Richard A. Grasso.
For all his achievements during his career as a trial lawyer, Dan has received many bar and community service honors and awards. In 2017, Dan was named a “Lifetime Achiever” by The American Lawyer and a “BTI Client Service All-Star.” In 2014, he was recognized as an inaugural “Litigation Trailblazer & Pioneer” by The National Law Journal, which recognized 50 individuals who have changed the practice of litigation through the use of innovative legal strategies. Notably, Dan was also a 2010 recipient of the Inns of Court Professionalism Award. He has been listed as a “Star Individual” by Chambers USA for General Commercial Litigation and named one of the top ten leading trial lawyers in the United States by The Legal 500.
