Jan Conlin is a passionate advocate for justice in both courtrooms and communities. Known for her trial and examination skills, Jan uses her well-honed expertise in the areas of trial strategy and risk assessment to find unique business resolutions for litigation-based conflicts of all sizes.

In February 2015, Jan stepped down from her prior firm along with name partner Michael V. Ciresi, to form Ciresi Conlin. Mike and Jan have tried cases together for 30 years and now the firm’s platform allows more flexibility with respect to high stakes litigation and trial work. Ciresi Conlin exists to be a force for good – in both courtrooms and communities. Casting off the traditional law firm structure, Ciresi Conlin enjoys handling cases on its own or partnering with other talented and tenacious lawyers across the country by layering in as trial counsel or adding expertise at any stage of the case.

Jan has received many awards. She is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, and is consistently listed in Best Lawyers in America and SuperLawyers. Four times BTI has recognized her as an esteemed “Client Service All-Star Team.”

Jan also has multiple nine-figure patent infringement and business litigation representations including a $520.6 million verdict against Microsoft in 2004, a $400 million settlement for Pitney Bowes Inc. in a patent dispute against Hewlett-Packard in 2001, and the 2009 defeat of a $100 million breach of licensing claim, where she earned a unanimous defense verdict as well as an award of attorney’s fees for her client.  Most recently, she negotiated a $27 million settlement in a royalty fee dispute, which was scheduled for arbitration.

Jan’s strengths are not limited to the courtroom. In addition to her pro bono work, she is extensively involved in the community, providing many hours of service to the organizations she supports. Her volunteer activities include multiple board-leadership positions including Board Trustee, The Minneapolis Foundation (term completed, Chair-Governance Committee); Board of Directors, Catholic Charities (term completed, Chair-Development Committee); Board Member, Minnesota Orchestral Association (term completed); Past Chair, St. Thomas Law School Board of Governor’s; past Chair, Minnesota State Bar Association, Civil Litigation Section Governing Council; past Chair, University of Minnesota Law School, Board of Advisors, and Ascension Catholic Academy Board Member.
