Kate is a partner at Crawley MacKewn Brush LLP. In addition to being recognized by Benchmark Canada as one of the top litigation lawyers under 40 in Canada, Kate received the 2021 Lexpert Rising Star Award which recognized leading lawyers under 40 across Canada. Kate’s litigation practice includes public inquiry work, securities regulation, complex corporate/commercial, professional discipline, employment, fraud and defamation issues. 

 
In the past several years, Kate has acted as inquiry counsel for several high-profile public inquiries. Kate is currently serving as co-lead counsel to the Commissioner of the Ottawa Light Rail Transit Public Inquiry investigating the commercial and technical circumstances that led to the breakdowns and derailments of Stage 1 of the Ottawa Light Rail Transit system. In 2020/21, Kate was co-lead Commission Counsel on Ontario’s Long-Term Care COVID-19 Commission, which investigated how and why COVID-19 spread in long-term care homes. Prior to that, Kate was Lead Inquiry Counsel on the Town of Collingwood Judicial Inquiry into the 50 per cent share sale of Collingwood Utility Services Corporation to PowerStream Inc. Kate has appeared before a variety of courts, tribunals, arbitrators and regulatory bodies, including all levels of the Ontario courts, the British Columbia Supreme Court, the Ontario Securities Commission, the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada, the Mutual Fund Dealers Association, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, the Ontario Municipal Board and the Financial Planning Standards Council.
