A partner in Lieff Cabraser's San Francisco office, Lin Y. Chan's successes include representing direct purchasers of titanium dioxide against titanium dioxide manufacturers for conspiring to fix prices. Lin worked extensively on the case's trial preparation, including drafting and arguing motions in limine. In 2013, the case settled before trial for $163 million.
Lin was also a member of the Lieff Cabraser team that successfully represented California consumers and third party payors in a class action lawsuit filed in California state court charging that Bayer Corporation, Barr Laboratories, and other generic prescription drug manufacturers conspired to restrain competition in the sale of Bayer's blockbuster antibiotic drug Ciprofloxacin, sold as Cipro. Total settlements in the case reached $399 million, a result the Trial Court described as "extraordinary." The Trial Court granted final approval in mid-2017. For these efforts, Lin shared the team's award from the American Antitrust Institute for Outstanding Private Practice Antitrust Achievement, and won the Institute's prestigious solo award for Outstanding Antitrust Litigation Achievement by a Young Lawyer.
Lin has been named a Super Lawyers Rising Star every year since 2015. Prior to joining Lieff Cabraser, Lin spent four years litigating nationwide employment discrimination and wage and hour class action lawsuits throughout the country. She also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Damon J. Keith of the Sixth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals from 2007 to 2008.
