Syed Ahmad is leader of Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP’s reinsurance litigation and counseling practice, where he has represented clients in recovering tens of millions of dollars. The litigation and arbitration matters that Syed has handled have involved emerging and cutting-edge issues related to settlement doctrines, allocation disputes, rescission claims and notice obligations. Syed regularly advises clients in connection with product recalls, including coverage procurement and manuscript endorsements for product contamination and food recall insurance, claim submission, claim adjustment inquiries, settlement negotiations and coverage disputes. He has represented clients in connection with disputes involving general liability, errors and omissions, directors and officers (D&O) and commercial property policies, including coverage issues arising out of multidistrict litigation related to claims from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and coverage issues arising from the World Trade Center attack. Syed has also counseled clients about representations and warranty insurance, which is increasingly used to manage risks in corporate deals.
Syed has become a proven thought leader on the subjects of insurance coverage, bad-faith and reinsurance and is frequently quoted and published by Law360, ABA Banking Journal, FC&S Legal, and Bloomberg. He is also a contributing author to the Hunton Insurance Recovery Blog.
Syed is a member of the American Bar Association’s Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee and the Torts, Trial and Insurance Practice Section. He is also a member of the Continuing Legal Education Committee for the District of Columbia Bar.
