Lynn Neuner, a Litigation Partner at Simpson Thacher, is an experienced trial attorney who specializes in disputes involving securities, mergers, insurance coverage and false advertising. She has tried high-stakes cases in federal and state court and conducted dozens of hearings before the National Advertising Division and Networks. In May 2017, Lynn helped secure a major settlement mid-trial under very favorable terms, in a long-running and widely-watched insurance dispute that began 15 years ago. In addition, in early 2017 after oral argument in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, Lynn received a favorable affirmance in a complex coverage case involving environmental pollution at numerous sites by a defense contractor. Lynn also represents TD Bank in a massive litigation seeking more than $4.5 billion in damages related to the Stanford Ponzi scheme. Lynn recently secured a major victory for Weight Watchers in a securities class action, and also assisted Weight Watchers in its strategic alliance with Oprah Winfrey, where Ms. Winfrey took a stake in the Company and joined the Board of Directors. Lynn represented CorpBanca, a large Chilean bank, in defeating an activist shareholder suit challenging the terms of its merger with Itaú, a large Brazilian bank. Lynn is also very active in false advertising matters where she regularly advises both Bayer and Pfizer on advertising campaigns for such products as Claritin, Advil and Nexium. Lynn is also counsel to Pfizer in federal litigation regarding the long-standing battle between Advil and Tylenol.
The American Lawyer named Lynn one of the nation’s top “45 Under 45” women attorneys in the country and she is consistently recognized as one of the “Top 250 Women in Litigation” in the U.S. by Euromoney’s Benchmark Litigation. Lynn is also recognized as a National and New York “Litigation Star” by Benchmark and is recommended by The Legal 500. She was selected as a David Rockefeller Fellow and she is regularly listed in the New York Super Lawyers Metro Edition.
Lynn received her J.D. in 1992 from Yale Law School, where she served as Co-Editor-in- Chief of the Yale Journal on Regulation and the Director of the Barristers’ Union. She received her B.A., summa cum laude, from Williams College in 1989. She clerked for the Hon. H. Lee Sarokin of the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, and for the Hon. John M. Walker, Jr., of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Lynn is a past Vice-President of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and is a former Chair of its Executive Committee. She is a former Chair of the Board of Directors for the Yale Law School Alumni Fund. She is currently a member of the Commercial Division Advisory Council and serves on the Lawyers’ Committee for the Inner-City Scholarship Fund. She currently concentrates her pro bono work on veterans’ issues. Lynn is currently one of Simpson Thacher’s two Administrative Partners and was voted by the partnership onto the Firm’s Executive Committee.
