Practice area:

White collar crime

Alex is a nationally-recognized litigator with over twenty years’ experience winning high-profile trials in courtrooms across the country. She founded Walsh Law in 2021 to represent individual plaintiffs with the same elite level of advocacy that earned her widespread praise defending white-collar and multinational corporate clients. Alex now serves in a leadership role on the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee in national litigation against Meta, Tik Tok and other social media firms regarding their role in teen media addiction. Alex will represent families in two upcoming  trials against manufacturers of baby foods contaminated with toxic heavy metals.

Alex’s victories on the defense side of the bar earned recognition from publications including the New York Law Journal, Law360 and the National Law Journal and earned her induction as a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers.

Clerkships and Education:

Alex has had the privilege of serving as law clerk to two of the country’s top jurists: the Honorable Merrick B. Garland, then a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, and the Honorable Stephen G. Breyer, Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Alex attended Bowdoin College, where she graduated summa cum laude, was elected Phi Beta Kappa, and by far most importantly, met her husband Brendan O’Brien. After Bowdoin, Alex attended Stanford Law School, where she served on the Executive Board for the Law Review, loved mixing it up in moot court, and took great pride in winning the school’s prize for Best Oral Advocate.

Community Involvement:

Alex serves on the board of D.C.’s Legal Aid Society, the city’s oldest and largest civil legal services organization. She also represents Legal Aid clients in landlord-tenant disputes. In addition, Alex is a board member for LIFT-DC, a national non-profit dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty for families with children through targeted career, education, and financial coaching. Most recently, Alex has begun volunteering with public charter school DC Prep, where she mentors middle school students.

Alex lives in Washington, D.C. with her husband Brendan, their four children, a beloved yellow lab, and two guinea pigs (on whom the jury is still out). In 2016, Brendan and Alex, realizing that their family needed a broader perspective on the world, packed up the kids and spent a year backpacking around the world. It was a life-changing experience for which she will always be grateful.
