Biography

Andrew was called to the Alberta bar in 2002. He was awarded King’s Counsel in 2022. Andrew’s practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, securities litigation, regulatory matters, including representing individuals and corporations charged with regulatory offences, class actions, and construction litigation.

Andrew has represented clients in all levels of Court in Alberta and other provinces, in international and domestic arbitrations, and has represented clients before numerous regulatory bodies including the Alberta Securities Commission, the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization, the Alberta Utilities Commission and the Alberta Energy Regulator.

Andrew is the Chairperson of the Calgary Humane Society.

Recent matter/case highlights
  • JL Energy Transportation Inc v Alliance Pipeline Limited Partnership, 2025 ABCA 26
    Counsel to JL Energy Transportation Inc. We were successful in reversing a summary dismissal ruling, and also having the Court of Appeal reverse its earlier decision in Canadian Energy Services Inc v Secure Energy Services Inc, 2022 ABCA 200. The decision clarified the applicable limitation period in patent claims brought before the Alberta Courts. The claim value is in excess of $100 million.

  • Alberta Utilities Commission Decision 29006‑D01‑2025 (Court of Appeal of Alberta–Directed Examination of Distribution Facility Owner Payments Under the Independent System Operator Tariff Customer Contribution Policy).

  • Counsel for FortisAlberta Inc. Successfully argued in favour of the lawfulness of the Independent System Operator Tariff Customer Contribution Policy. The amounts in issue were in excess of $400 million.
