Brian Portas is a partner in BLG’s Calgary office with a practice focused on labour and employment law and business immigration. He advises employers on a wide range of workplace matters, including wrongful dismissal claims, severance negotiations, employment standards and human rights complaints, employment agreements, disability and accommodation issues, and progressive discipline. Brian also assists clients with business immigration matters, including Canadian work permits, permanent residence and citizenship applications, and cross‑border workforce mobility. He regularly advises employers on workforce planning and compliance issues and is a Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR). Brian is an active member of the Canadian Bar Association (CBA), Human Resources Institute of Alberta and the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA).
Brian was called to the Alberta Bar in 2001.
