Brittany L. Sukiennik focuses her practice on complex litigation, including mass torts and other commercial disputes. She routinely navigates some of the most expansive and high stakes cases, with particularly significant trial experience in courts across the nation.
Some of Ms. Sukiennik’s clients have included Biogen, Costamare, Crown Castle, Deloitte & Touche, FleetCor Technologies, Grupo Modelo, Light & Wonder, Merck, NCR, PG&E, Qualcomm, Robinhood, Sempra and Xcel Energy.
Ms. Sukiennik has been recognized by numerous publications, including The American Lawyer as a finalist for its “Young Lawyer of the Year—Litigation” award and the New York Law Journal as “Rising Star.” In 2026, Crain’s New York Business named her to its “Notable Women in Law” list. Ms. Sukiennik has also been recognized in Lawdragon and The Legal 500 US.
Ms. Sukiennik also maintains an active pro bono practice. In 2023, The Legal Aid Society honored Ms. Sukiennik and other members of the Cravath team with a Pro Bono Publico Award in recognition of their work for pro bono clients as part of Cravath’s Incarcerated Survivors Initiative.
Ms. Sukiennik received a B.A. summa cum laude from The University of Texas at Austin in 2007, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She received a J.D. from Columbia Law School in 2011, where she was a James Kent Scholar, was awarded the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Prize and served as the Senior Editor of the Law Review.
Ms. Sukiennik joined Cravath in 2011. In 2012, she left to serve as a law clerk to Hon. Cathy Seibel, followed by a clerkship to Hon. Vernon S. Broderick, both of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. Ms. Sukiennik rejoined Cravath in 2014 and was elected a partner in 2020.
Representing PG&E in connection with mass tort litigation related to the California wildfires between 2019 and 2022. Ms. Sukiennik previously represented the company in numerous lawsuits arising out of the unprecedented 2017 and 2018 California wildfires—one of the largest and most complex sets of mass tort litigation in recent years. She also represented PG&E in its chapter 11 reorganization proceedings—the largest utility bankruptcy in U.S. history—which the company successfully emerged from in 2020.
Represented Xcel Energy, a major U.S. electricity and natural gas company with operations in eight states, in hundreds of lawsuits filed against Xcel arising from the December 2021 Marshall Wildfire, which were resolved shortly before trial. Ms. Sukiennik also represents Xcel and its subsidiary, Southwestern Public Service Company, in dozens of actions concerning the February 2024 Texas Panhandle wildfires, which included the Smokehouse Creek Fire.
Representing Light & Wonder (formerly Scientific Games Corporation) in putative class action and individual antitrust litigation filed in Illinois federal court, and in an arbitration before the American Arbitration Association, involving Walker Process antitrust monopolization claims that concern automatic card shufflers used in casinos.
Representing Southern California Gas Company (“SoCalGas”) in litigation filed in California state court concerning the January 2025 Los Angeles Wildfires.
- Represented Costamare Shipping and related entities in connection with litigation filed in California federal court, including a consolidated putative class action, alleging various theories of liability concerning the October 2021 San Pedro Bay pipeline leak off the coast of California, ultimately securing a series of settlements to resolve the actions.
