Biography
Focusing her practice on every stage of insurance recovery cases, Cindy Jordano represents a wide range of organizations in state and federal venues, as well as in arbitration. Cindy’s practice spans the country, while maintaining a New York emphasis. Cindy has advised on multiple disputes at the cutting edge of insurance law, including significant wins in the D&O coverage space.
Cindy’s work includes precedent-setting matters at the forefront of insurance law. For instance, she secured a Delaware Supreme Court ruling in February 2025 that upheld a rare reversal of a pro-insurer jury verdict in a high-profile insurance coverage dispute between AIG Specialty Insurance Company and Conduent State Healthcare. The ruling reaffirmed key principles of New York insurance law, including that an insurer cannot breach its defense obligation and then insist on the policyholder’s continued compliance with a policy’s consent and cooperation provisions.
In another high-profile matter, Cindy secured a Delaware Supreme Court decision in December 2025 in favor of AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc., affirming a lower court’s ruling that a stock settlement payment was a covered “loss” under AMC’s insurance policy. The decision established important precedent for policyholders seeking coverage for settlements paid with non-cash consideration.
Recently, she also secured a Delaware Superior Court ruling for Syngenta against Travelers in a long-running insurance coverage dispute arising from underlying lawsuits alleging bodily injury from exposure to the herbicide paraquat. The decision, unsealed in February 2026, held that Travelers has a duty to defend six exemplar actions and narrowly interpreted the pollution exclusion in Travelers’ earlier policies.
Previously, Cindy clerked in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York and practiced law at a leading New York litigation firm, where she handled a broad spectrum of matters, including antitrust, bankruptcy litigation, and shareholder disputes.
Following the launch of Cohen Ziffer in early 2021, Cindy became the firm’s first attorney elevated from associate to partner in November 2021. Cindy has been recognized as a Law360 Insurance Rising Star and a Woman Worth Watching by Profiles in Leadership Journal, and recently received Business Insurance’s Break Out Award.
