Kate Mueting is Sanford Heisler Sharp McKnight’s Administrative Partner, Co-Chair of the firm’s Discrimination and Harassment Practice Group, and Co-Chair of the firm’s Executive Representation Practice Group. Kate has led hard-fought litigation challenging systemic gender and pregnancy discrimination at law and accounting firms as well as specializing in private, confidential negotiations. Kate represents professionals at the highest levels in their fields, including BigLaw partners and corporate executives. She has advised C-Suite executives in the pharmaceutical, technology, consulting, media, and communications industries against their Fortune 500 employers. Kate has recovered tens of millions of dollars on behalf of her clients, who have raised their hands to challenge and address discrimination and harassment in the workplace.
Kate is a frequent speaker and guest lecturer at bar associations, educational institutions, and law firms and is an adjunct professor at the University of Iowa College of Law. Kate is actively involved in the District of Columbia's Women's Bar Association, which recognized Kate in 2018 with its coveted Mussey-Gillett Shining Star Award, which recognizes one member each year who makes extraordinary contributions to the organization. Kate is also a member of the Legal Network for Gender Equity.
Kate has been recognized by U.S. News as among the “Best Lawyers” in America for representing individuals in employment law. She was among a handful of employment lawyers nationwide honored as a “Rising Star” by Law360 in 2019, and the National Law Journal recognized her as one of Washington, DC’s Rising Stars in 2017.
