As a partner in the firm's Litigation Group and Co‑Chair of our Construction Law Group, Kayla acts as a trusted advisor to those in the construction industry, advising clients at all stages of their construction projects, including drafting and negotiating contracts, capably guiding clients in navigating issues on projects as they arise, and acting as litigation counsel.
In Kayla’s litigation practice, her strategic advocacy approach, coupled with her proficiency in navigating the construction sector landscape, provides a holistic and pragmatic approach from which her clients benefit. Her clients, including real estate developers, general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, architects, engineers, and public sector owners (such as municipalities), rely on Kayla’s skilled counsel and expertise to generate favourable results on a broad scope of construction‑related litigation matters, always keeping her clients’ best interests her top priority.
Kayla has considerable experience with the Construction Act and has broad experience acting for clients on complex litigation matters, including regular appearances before Judges and Associate Judges of the Superior Court of Justice, Construction Lien Associate Judges and the Ontario Court of Appeal.
To complement her law practice, Kayla was elected by her peers to serve on the Ontario Bar Association’s Construction and Infrastructure Law Executive from 2018–2021. At Torkin Manes LLP, Kayla is Chair of Women’s Leadership and Business Development. As a testament to her excellence in construction law, Kayla is recognized by prominent legal directories, including the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory and The Best Lawyers in Canada.
