Kevin McGivney is a partner in BLG’s Toronto office and an elected member of the firm’s Partnership Board. He advises clients on a broad range of liability, insurance, administrative and commercial matters, with a practice focused on municipal and police liability, property and casualty insurance, and insurance coverage disputes. Kevin has extensive experience as lead trial and appellate counsel and has appeared before all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada, as well as before administrative tribunals, in judicial reviews, mediations and arbitrations.
He regularly represents municipalities, municipal councillors, police services and related public‑sector entities in complex liability matters, including class actions, defamation claims and Charter‑based litigation, and frequently acts in proceedings before the Human Rights Tribunal and at Coroner’s Inquests. He also acts for insurers and insureds in property and casualty insurance matters, advising on policy interpretation and defending insured parties in complex claims.
Kevin was called to the Ontario Bar in 1991.
