Biography

Nicholas Reynolds is a Partner in the Construction and Infrastructure Law Group at Singleton Urquhart Reynolds Vogel LLP, where his practice is focused on  resolving complex challenges on significant projects. He has built a reputation as a problem solver and trusted strategist, with his expertise having earned him recognition in Chambers Canada, Best Lawyers, and Lexology Index. He is praised for his “extraordinary attention to detail,” “strong technical skills,” and ability to “advise on complex matters in layman[’s] terms,” making decision-making effortless for clients. Lexology Index adds, “he is very knowledgeable and detail-oriented in his approach to advising and providing advocacy. He possesses a depth of knowledge of the industry and strategic approach.”

Nicholas is known for his ability to navigate and resolve disputes across industries. He represents a diverse range of clients, including owners, sureties, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, designers, and consultants, with his experience spanning the full project lifecycle across a wide range of sectors including mass transit, border crossings, electrical infrastructure, healthcare, long-term care, high-rise residential and condominium development, commercial manufacturing, marine projects, and parcel distribution centers.

Above all, Nicholas proactively manages risk to resolve active disputes, whether through dispute avoidance or resolution. He has prosecuted and defended complex construction and surety bond claims in court proceedings, arbitration, mediation (with extensive experience in mid-project mediations), structured negotiations, and before dispute boards. In addition, he is skilled in drafting and negotiating contract documents for construction projects—both bespoke and standard form agreements—as well as surety documents such as general indemnity and financing agreements.

Nicholas is also a prolific writer on construction law, domestic and international arbitration, contract law, and insurance, contributing valuable insights to the industry. He has been recognized by ADRIC as a Qualified Arbitrator and holds the designation of Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, at the time making him one of the youngest individuals in Canada to achieve this distinction.
