Robert Wisner is widely recognized as a leading practitioner in international arbitration and corporate commercial litigation. He assists clients from many industries, with a focus on mining, energy and aviation. As the national leader of the firm’s International Arbitration & Cross-Border Litigation Group, Robert has argued numerous cases before arbitral tribunals seated throughout Canada and in major international venues. He has also appeared at all levels of court in Ontario and other Canadian jurisdictions.
Robert advises on a wide range of complex disputes involving corporate governance, shareholder remedies, and sophisticated commercial contracts, including M&A, joint ventures, partnerships, supply agreements, and services agreements. He has represented minority shareholders in major oppression remedy cases, including serving as lead counsel in a derivative action recognized by Lexpert as one of Canada’s top 10 business law decisions of 2023. He also has deep experience in enforcing foreign arbitral awards and judgments, including against state entities, and in advising natural resource clients on international treaties and industry guidelines.
In addition to his counsel work, Robert serves as an arbitrator in domestic and international disputes. He is a former member of the Arbitration Court of the London Court of International Arbitration and previously sat on the board of the International Institute for Conflict Prevention & Resolution, contributing to global efforts to reduce litigation costs and improve business dispute management.
