Biography

Robbie Kaplan, co-founder of Kaplan Martin, is a renowned litigator and trial attorney, known as a fierce and creative advocate who vigorously champions her clients’ causes.

Robbie regularly represents plaintiffs and defendants in commercial, employment, and regulatory matters, along with maintaining one of the most diverse and celebrated civil rights, higher-education, employment, public interest, and political law practices in the country. She has also represented major law firms in connection with their insurance, commercial, and employment matters.

In Robbie’s decades of work as a commercial litigator, she has represented some of the most powerful institutions in the financial services, technology, entertainment, consumer products, and media industries. She regularly is entrusted with conducting sensitive internal investigations and defending individuals and companies facing legal and regulatory challenges.

Robbie currently serves as counsel for the New York City Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) in connection with at least thirteen separate lawsuits seeking to block its implementation of congestion pricing in New York City, all of which have failed.

Robbie may be best known for her successful advocacy in public interest and discrimination and gender-based misconduct matters. Robbie successfully argued United States v. Windsor before the Supreme Court, challenging a key provision in the “Defense of Marriage Act,” leading to nationwide marriage equality. She currently represents E. Jean Carroll in her two successful lawsuits against Donald Trump for sexual assault and defamation.

Among numerous honors, Robbie was recognized as the “Attorney of the Year” by the New York Law Journal, received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the New York Law Journal, and has been honored as “Litigator of the Year” by The American Lawyer and “Most Innovative Lawyer of the Year” by The Financial Times.
