Biography

Ryan Goldstein is a partner in the Austin office of Reid Collins & Tsai LLP.  His practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, including actions involving business torts, professional liability, and complex financial transactions. He has litigated and tried cases before state courts, federal courts, and arbitration tribunals across the country, in addition to representing clients in connection with confidential, pre-suit settlements. As part of his professional liability practice, Ryan has pursued legal malpractice claims (often on a confidential basis) against numerous Am Law 100 firms involving a wide range of alleged misconduct. Ryan also maintains an active pro bono practice, including through the firm’s partnership with the ACLU of Louisiana on the Justice Lab initiative.

Prior to joining the firm, Ryan completed a judicial clerkship for the Honorable Nicholas G. Garaufis in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York.  Before his federal clerkship, Ryan worked as a litigation associate at the New York office of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP.  

Ryan is widely recognized by industry observers for his professional accomplishments. In 2025, he was named to Lawdragon’s list of The 500 Leading Plaintiff Financial Lawyers in America.  In 2023, The National Law Journal named Ryan a Rising Star of the Plaintiffs Bar.  He was selected as “One to Watch” for Commercial Litigation and Professional Malpractice Law by Best Lawyers in America® in 2023 and 2024.  Since 2022, he has been on Benchmark Litigation‘s “40 & Under” guide. Ryan was selected in 2023 and 2024 to Lawdragon’s “500 X – The Next Generation.” For his pro bono work in partnership with the ACLU he was a 2023 Recipient of the Excellence in Public Interest Award from the Texas Law Fellowships.

Recent matter/case highlights
  • Representing Trustee of Insys Liquidation Trust in investigation and pursuit of D&O and fraudulent transfer claims.

  • Representing North American Sugar Industries Inc. in pursuit of claims under the Helms-Burton Act.

  • Representing the Joint Official Liquidators of Farfetch Limited, a Cayman Islands company, in Chapter 15 bankruptcy proceeding and investigation of claims related to the company’s collapse.

  • Represented Carling O’Brien in arbitration against private equity firm Emerald Lake Capital Management. The case was successfully resolved on confidential terms.

  • Secured favorable jury verdict and damages award in favor of client in pro bono civil rights trial against police officer in federal court.
