Hicks Thomas Partner Colin Watterson is an accomplished trial lawyer well-versed in representing businesses and individuals in a diverse range of commercial and complex disputes. Colin frequently represents clients in the oil and gas industry, especially midstream clients with disputes over transportation, gathering, marketing, joint venture, and other contractual arrangements. He also represents real estate industry clients with contract and business tort disputes and has experience litigating patent, trade secret, and other intellectual property matters. 


Before joining Hicks Thomas, Colin worked at a litigation boutique in Houston, where he represented plaintiffs and defendants in a wide array of commercial disputes. His experience also includes work as a law clerk for Judge John Rogers of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.


Colin was named to the 2023 Best Lawyers in America list of “Ones to Watch,” and to the Texas Super Lawyers list of Rising Stars for 2023. He received his law degree from The University of Texas School of Law, where he graduated with the highest honors. Colin also served as an articles editor of the Texas Law Review. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Emory University in Atlanta.
