As an industry-leading insurance lawyer, Dr Zhan's insurance law practice covers insurance disputes; the use of insurance funds; corporate matters (developing/localizing insurance products in China, the localization of insurance products and compliance); establishing insurance institutions insurer IPO and M&A deals; subrogation; litigation; arbitration; extended warranty; healthcare; and many other matters. His clients include various prominent Chinese and global insurance companies. Dr Zhan has dealt with cases regarding all kinds of property and life insurance. He is regularly recognized by Who's Who Legal, Chambers & Partners, ALB, Expert Guides, PLC, the Client Choice Awards, Asian-MENA Counsel and Asialaw as one of China's leading insurance lawyers. Under his leadership, AnJie's insurance team has grown to become the largest in the PRC.

Competition

As a widely recognized antitrust and competition lawyer, Dr Zhan is partner at AnJie's antitrust and competition group, one of the biggest antitrust teams in China. The scope of the antitrust legal practice covers merger antitrust filing, defense of antitrust investigation, antitrust private litigation, antitrust compliance, antitrust analysis from an economic perspective, and anti-unfair competition issues, serving clients in the semiconductor, automobile, cell phone, energy, finance, machinery, electronics, textile, aviation, IT, food and consumer goods sectors. In his practice, Dr Zhan excels in particular with antitrust filings, investigations, and litigation. In regard to concentration antitrust filings, he has assisted many multinational and state-owned enterprises (SOEs) in China and has secured approvals for all transactions he has represented thus far. In 2022, he helped foreign clients get approval from SAMR in two remedy filing cases, and in this year SAMR only approved 5 remedy cases. In regard to antitrust investigations, Dr Zhan has represented both Chinese-funded and foreign-funded companies and has successful experience in dealing with antitrust investigations, including dawn raids in response to monopoly agreements or abuse of dominant positions. For instance, he has represented respondents in China's first antitrust investigation against price cartels and consequently obtained a suspension of the investigation. In addition, Dr Zhan has successfully defended clients in antitrust litigation before Chinese courts, many of them related to SEPs. For his antitrust practice, Dr Zhan is classed Band 1 by Chambers and Partners and Legal 500.

Meanwhile, Dr. Zhan serves as the vice chairman of ICC China Competition Commission, an arbitrator with CIETAC, SIETAC, HKIAC, BJAC, SCIA, KLRCA, LCIA, DIS and AICAC, and the vice president (and only attorney member) of the Insurance Association of China's auto insurance consulting committee. He also serves member of the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese's legal counsel committee; and expert to the Insurance Asset Management Association of China.
