Nisha Kaur Uberoi is a Partner and the National Head of the Competition Law Practice at Trilegal, leading one of the largest competition law teams in India. She regularly represents client before the CCI, NCLAT, High Court(s) and the Supreme Court of India.

Nisha was recognised as global ‘Dealmaker of the Year’ at the Global Competition Review (GCR) Awards 2021 in recognition of her advising on complex M&A transactions aggregating over USD 100 billion. She also led Trilegal to become the first Indian competition law practice to be awarded the coveted ‘Regional Firm of the Year – Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa’, at the GCR Awards 2020.

Nisha frequently advises on complex merger control cases, including Phase-II reviews and has led India’s only Phase-II review where the CCI accepted novel behavioural remedies, in Schneider Electric and Temasek’s acquisition of Larsen & Toubro’s electric business.

She has also advised Prosus and PayU on PayU’s proposed acquisition of BillDesk, which remains the first and only instance of the CCI clearing a notified transaction unconditionally after issuing a show-cause notice.

Nisha represents digital economy players, including Apple Inc., Walmart’s e-commerce platform subsidiary Flipkart, and has successfully defended Ola Cabs at the Supreme Court in relation to allegations of algorithmic collusion.

Nisha is currently leading the defense in the alleged cement cartel case involving India’s highest penalty of USD 1.2 billion, where she is representing the USD 60 billion Aditya Birla conglomerate.

Nisha is internationally recognised as one of India’s leading competition lawyers, including being recognised by Chambers (Band 1), Who’s Who Legal Thought Leaders in Competition 2023-24, Who’s Who Legal: Competition, IFLR 1000, Asia Law Leading Lawyers – Elite Practitioner, and Euromoney Women in Business. Nisha has also featured in the inaugural ALB Asia’s 40 under 40, GCR 100 Women in Antitrust, RSG India Emerging Leaders 2019 as well in the A-List of India’s top 100 lawyers by the India Business Law Journal and Indian Corporate Counsel Association.

The IBLJ Law Firm Awards 2018 recognises her as “the one lawyer you want to have on your team when dealing with a challenging transaction or competition law case. She has one of the biggest and best teams of competition lawyers in India”.

Nisha currently serves as India’s Non-Governmental Advisor for the International Competition Network (ICN).

She is also an officer on the IBA Antitrust Committee and is on the Leadership team of the ABA’s Antitrust Section. Nisha was also a part of the Working Group of the Competition Law Review Committee set up by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India to recommend changes to the competition law regime in India.
