Patrick is the Regional Group Manager of Specialized Litigation in BLG’s Calgary office, practising primarily in the areas of health and complex insurance defence. Patrick’s deep industry knowledge and extensive experience in professional negligence defence make him an integral part of the BLG Health Law Group. His practice spans a range of insurance areas with his primary focus on defending professionals including architects and engineers. In addition to construction related matters, Patrick has successfully defended manufacturers and distributors respecting product liability claims, insurers, insurance brokers, MGAs, real estate agents and commercial hosts for many years. He acts for insurers respecting subrogated claims. Patrick was recently retained by the entire Lloyd’s insurance market to defend their interests in COVID-19 business interruption class actions brought across Canada. In addition to insurance, he defends Alberta Health Services and its staff in a wide variety of Actions. This work has recently seen Patrick successfully leading the defence of AHS in relation to Alberta doctors challenging AHS COVID-19 immunization requirements. In addition to litigation, he has provided coverage opinions for a number of insurers on a variety of policies, including CGL, D&O and EPL, and has even assisted insurers in the development of their Canadian policy wordings. Patrick is an active member of the ADR Institute of Alberta and is his second elected terms as a Board member of the Alberta CBA. He was recognized as Lawyer of the Year for Product Liability Law in the 2021 edition of The Best Lawyers in Canada.


Patrick was called to the Alberta Bar in 2001.
