Sharonmoyee Goswami is a partner in Cravath’s Litigation Department. She focuses her practice on intellectual property, antitrust and litigation involving complex scientific issues. She has extensive experience representing companies and individuals in all stages of litigation, from pre complaint investigation through appeal, and routinely practices before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).


Ms. Goswami secured an unprecedented trial win in September 2022 for Illumina in which the FTC’s Chief Administrative Law Judge ruled in favor of Illumina and rejected the FTC’s challenge of Illumina’s $8 billion acquisition of GRAIL, a healthcare company developing a cancer screening test for 50 cancer types.  She continues to represent Illumina on appeal to the Fifth Circuit.


Ms. Goswami won a trial decision in November 2022 for Alarm.com in patent infringement litigation brought by Causam Enterprises at the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) concerning four patents for demand management functionality used to manage electric operating reserves. In February 2023, the ITC affirmed the decision and terminated the investigation. She also won a trial decision for Alarm.com in April 2021 in an ITC investigation initiated by EcoFactor, which sought an exclusion order to prevent certain products, among them Alarm.com’s smart thermostats, from entering the United States. 


Ms. Goswami represents Abiomed in two patent infringement matters relating to patents for guidance systems used in intravascular blood pumps, as well as Truist Bank in patent infringement litigation concerning patents that relate to remote check deposits for mobile banking. She additionally represents Vitaworks in patent litigation against manufacturers, importers and distributors of taurine, an organic compound used in consumer products, including energy drinks.


Ms. Goswami received a B.S.E. in Chemical Engineering from Princeton University in 2009 and obtained certificates (minors) in Engineering Biology and Materials Science. At Princeton, she was awarded the inaugural leadership prize in Materials Science and Engineering. She received a J.D. magna cum laude from New York University School of Law in 2012, where she was a Florence Allen Scholar, a Senior Editor of the Journal of Intellectual Property & Entertainment Law and was elected to the Order of the Coif. At NYU, she was awarded the Walter J. Derenberg Prize in Copyright Law.


Ms. Goswami joined Cravath in 2012. She served as a law clerk to Hon. Timothy B. Dyk of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in 2013. She rejoined Cravath in 2014 and was elected a partner in 2019. Ms. Goswami serves on the Firm’s Diversity Committee and is a partner liaison to the South Asian Affinity Group/Middle Eastern Affinity Group.
