Firm overview

Bunsow De Mory is a leading IP litigation and trial boutique firm based in Silicon Valley with an additional office in northern Virginia. The firm’s recent victories  have firmly cemented its position as one of the country’s elite patent trial firms.

Bunsow De Mory succeeds because of its singular focus: unwavering commitment to achieving its client’s goals, even against the odds. Firm lawyers don’t shy away from the most difficult challenges against the biggest technology companies in the world. They thrive on them.

The firm focuses on plaintiff-side patent cases, where clearing the hurdles to get to trial is rare, and winning at trial is even rarer. Yet, Bunsow De Mory continues to defy the odds, securing more than $250 million in verdicts and settlements in the last two years alone.

Bunsow De Mory PTAB’s practice is second to none. Based on empirical studies of PTAB results, Patexia recently ranked Bunsow De Mory as the best performing law firm at the PTAB from July 2020 to June 2025.

The firm works on matters across a range of technologies and industries, including mobile automotive, telecommunications, artificial intelligence, fintech, and life sciences.

Legal experts have recognized the firm’s excellence. In addition to its recognition by Benchmark Litigation, the was also ranked as Highly Recommended for patent disputes by Managing IP and was listed in the Chambers USA guide for intellectual property—patent litigation.

Power Control, S.L. v.  Apple, Samsung, LG (D. Del.):

In June 2025, Bunsow De Mory secured the second largest patent damages verdict in the District of Delaware this year. After a three-day trial, a jury returned a $110,738,008 verdict for Bunsow De Mory client TOT Power Control against Apple. TOT Power Control alleged that Apple infringed two patents which claimed important technological improvements to 3G technology that enable significant power savings, greatly increasing a mobile phone’s available bandwidth for data. The jury found that Apple infringed one patent, found the patent valid, and awarded a $0.25 running royalty.

Inmar Brand Solutions, Inc. v. Quotient Technology Inc. (D. Del., PTAB):

Bunsow De Mory represented Inmar, an innovative company that specializes in electronic coupon distribution and clearing. The firm guided Inmar to convert an infringement notice letter it received from a competitor into a major strategic patent win against a different competitor. Inmar obtained an exclusive license to the competitor’s patents and asserted them against Quotient Technologies. The firm secured a non-institution decision on one of Quotient’s inter partes review petitions filed with the Patent Trial & Appeal Board, a denial of Quotient’s attempt to stay the case pending the instituted IPRs, and a sweeping claim construction victory. The case settled favorably for Inmar in July 2025 in a confidential settlement.

Lambeth Magnetic Structures LLC v. Seagate Technologies (US) Holdings Inc. (W.D. Pa., Fed. Cir.):

Bunsow De Mory represents Lambeth Magnetic Structures in a long-running patent infringement case against Seagate. The firm secured a big win for LMS when the Federal Circuit reversed the trial court’s claim construction and issued a vacatur on the jury’s verdict against LMS on infringement. LMS’s case against Seagate dates to 2016 when Seagate for infringing a patent that claims a new enabling magnetic structure with a property called uniaxial anisotropy. Disk drive manufacturers use this invention to produce and sell next-generation hard drives with greatly enhanced storage capability. Bunsow De Mory will re-try LMS’s infringement case against Seagate.

Bunsow De Mory is boutique focused on intellectual property, and particularly patents. Based in Redwood City (with other offices in Texas and in the DC area,) the firm is considered “very plugged in to the whole Silicon Valley tech scene.” It is also noted that the firm “had a very good year last year [in 2024], with some nice wins, and have also been in growth mode.” Indeed, the firm currently sits at 19 lawyers, 13 of these partners. Speaking to the partners’ individual qualities, peers note that [firm founder] “Henry Bunsow is kind of a legend out here [in the Bay Area.] He was at a number of other firms before striking out on his own to put this outfit together.” Another name partner, Denise De Mory is considered “something of a leader there now.” A client describes DeMory as “brilliant, innovative and creative, and a pleasure to work with.” Another elaborates, “She’s aggressive but does a good job of balancing risk and reward. She allows significant client involvement.” Beyond the name partners, Michael Belloli receives client acclaim for his “communication, in-depth knowledge of law and effective strategies in patent litigation.” Michael Flynn-O’Brien has, in addition to patent work, been building out a profile in the trade secrets space, a particularly robust phenomenon in the Bay Area. A client cheers Flynn-O’Brien’s “timeliness, attentiveness and strategic thinking,” and explains, “Michael is incredibly adept at striking the balance between business interests and litigation strategy. He is exceptionally intelligent and is able to master the fundamentals of the tech or product that is usually at the heart of the cases he is working on and is a skilled trial attorney.”
