Joseph Reiter

Joseph Reiter has a track record of high-profile wins at trial and on appeal in complex litigation. Described by judges and clients as an “excellent” and “terrific attorney who has earned our trust,” Mr. Reiter has been honored as a finalist for “Young Lawyer of the Year” by The American Lawyer. Mr. Reiter has obtained favorable results across a broad range of complex litigation, including health care, antitrust, trade secret, class action, False Claims Act, whistleblower retaliation, employment, patent, and tax cases. Regardless of the subject matter, clients rely on Mr. Reiter when creative and forceful advocacy is required in some of their most significant matters. He has been instrumental in securing wins for Amazon, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Deloitte, the California Institute of Technology, Acorn Technologies, BlackBerry, and the State Bar of California, to name a few.

With 12 trials under his belt, Mr. Reiter has substantial courtroom experience that includes delivering opening and closing arguments, examining witnesses, and arguing motions and appeals. In addition, his written advocacy has secured the dismissal of multiple cases through dispositive motions and a victory before the Supreme Court of the United States.

• As first-chair, Mr. Reiter recently scored a complete defense victory for the country’s largest integrated health care system in a multi-part arbitration with Dignity Health, the largest hospital chain in California. Dignity sought over $90 million on allegations that Kaiser breached the parties’ contracts and violated California law by not reimbursing Dignity for items on Dignity’s bills for emergency medical services provided to Kaiser members, as well as injunctive relief that would have a financial impact of hundreds of millions of dollars.

• Mr. Reiter recently led the team that secured a complete defense verdict for a major insurer in a hard-fought, two-part arbitration against a government hospital. The government hospital sought over $50 million in damages and penalties, alleging that the insurer breached the parties’ contract and violated the False Claims Act by knowingly avoiding payment. In April 2026, Mr. Reiter persuaded the arbitrator to rule for his client on all issues and claims.

• Mr. Reiter co-led the team that secured a complete win in a strategically important antitrust suit on behalf of a major video game company. In the case, a former and would-be future owner of a team in the company’s esports league sued the client under the Sherman Act in federal court. The company faced over $100 million in potential exposure and the prospect of a public antitrust trial, but Mr. Reiter won a motion to compel arbitration, which resulted in confidential arbitration proceedings. In October 2025, he convinced the arbitrator to rule that each of the plaintiff’s claims must be dismissed.

• Mr. Reiter obtained a favorable settlement exceeding $300 million in value for Match Group against Google over its illegal monopolization and other anticompetitive behavior in the distribution of mobile apps and processing of in-app purchases. The settlement was recognized with a U.S. Impact Case Award by Benchmark Litigation.

• Mr. Reiter obtained a complete defense verdict for PricewaterhouseCoopers in a high-profile lawsuit and closely watched federal trial brought by a former employee and SEC whistleblower, Mauro Botta. He secured a complete dismissal of all claims against seven partners on a motion to dismiss.
