Dispute resolution

Mayer Brown and Singapore firm PK Wong Nair launched their joint law venture at the beginning of 2023, the first of its kind since 2016. This new entity marries a strong domestic litigation practice, notably in the restructuring and insolvency space, with a thriving and fully formed arbitration set. It houses more than 30 lawyers and 17 partners. The arbitration team, which is one of the largest in Singapore, works on mandates from across the region.

Leading the litigation team are directors Suresh Nair and Andrew Ang, while the key contacts for international arbitration are partners Yu-Jin Tay, Paul Teo, Kay-Jannes Wegner, and counsel Matt Shaw.

On the domestic side, the firm continues to act for Antanium Resources in a proposed restructuring of its debts. The international arbitration lawyers secured a major victory for a leading Asian LNG trader in a dispute against its upstream LNG seller. The dispute related to contested issues of force majeure invoked by the upstream LNG seller as a result of a force majeure event in the US.
