Kelsey Sherriff has a general commercial litigation practice with a focus on class actions, and estates and trusts.

Kelsey has a diverse litigation practice that includes:

Class actions: Kelsey acts as defence counsel in a wide variety of class actions including environmental, pharmaceutical claims, products liability, security breaches and price fixing cases. Kelsey has advocated in the defence of clients facing class actions both in the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal, and in negotiating resolutions for clients in class action matters.

Trust and estate litigation and dispute resolution: Kelsey acts for executors on pro-bate matters and complex estate litigation matters as well as for individuals and charities on issues concerning the validity of wills and variation claims. Kelsey acts for trustees in contentious trust matters, with experience dealing with charitable purpose trusts and trusts for First Nations. In addition, Kelsey acts for clients assisting with the care of adults, including applications for committeeship. Kelsey is a proponent of the value of mediated solutions for estate disputes to avoid further stress at a time of grieving.

Commercial litigation: Kelsey acts for a wide array of clients in her commercial litigation practice on matters involving contractual disputes, debt claims, and shareholder disputes.

As a litigator Kelsey recognizes that her clients are facing complex issues in a stressful adversarial process and finds solutions to those problems in a way that minimizes the adversarial nature of the dispute and maximizes positive outcomes for everyone involved. Kelsey values professionalism as the fundamental approach to good advocacy.

Kelsey believes it is important for lawyers to pay it forward. She is committed to pro bono advocacy, taking on several large complex matters including as counsel in Scott
v Canada acting for Canada’s veterans. Kelsey is the co-chair of Miller Thomson’s pro bono committee. She values mentorship; both that she has received from the lawyers she has been lucky to work with as well as mentoring the junior lawyers that she encounters in her practice. Kelsey serves as the co-chair of Miller Thomson Vancouver’s Women’s Leadership Initiative committee.

Kelsey has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in Canada, The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory and Benchmark Canada for her expertise.

Prior to work at Miller Thomson, Kelsey clerked for one year at the British Columbia Supreme Court.
