Sherina Petit is a dispute resolution lawyer in the energy, trade and transport team based in London. She specialises in international arbitration, litigation, ADR and regulatory investigations.
Sherina has a wide range of experience in all key aspects of international arbitration across a broad range of industries, including commodities, construction, energy, financial services, infrastructure, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, technology and transport. She represents clients across the globe in a wide variety of arbitration proceedings, including those before the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) as well as in ad hoc proceedings.
Sherina has extensive experience in Asia, including representing the energy subsidiary of one of India's leading technology companies in an ICC arbitration worth US$450 million; acting for one of India's leading wind energy companies in an ICC arbitration; acting for an Indian pharmaceutical company in an LCIA arbitration; advising an Indian owner and operator of a commodities and currencies derivatives exchange in an ICC arbitration; representing an Indian travel corporation in an LCIA arbitration and advising in an UNCITRAL arbitration involving a Pakistani textile manufacturing company. She has also advised an Indian energy company in the English High Court concerning arbitrations brought against the Government of India. Sherina has also advised various Indian companies and individuals on potential defamation actions in the English High Court.
Sherina has experience in regulatory investigations, including assisting on a US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act investigation relating to the UN’s Oil for Food Programme in Iraq.
Sherina regularly sits as an arbitrator in international arbitrations and is an expert in India-related matters. She is also a published writer and speaker on international arbitration and has recently co-authored a chapter of the book “Arbitration in England” edited by Julien Lew QC.
Sherina serves on the LCIA Board of Directors, the ICC Indian Arbitration Group, the SIAC Users Council and the SIAC Users Council’s Regional/National Committee for the United Kingdom. She was featured as one of “the next generation of partners setting the disputes agenda” in the Legal Business Disputes Yearbook 2015.
Sherina is ranked in several leading directories, including Chambers Asia Pacific, which states that “she is efficient and upfront, and comes out with flying colours” and Chambers UK, which states that she is “technically excellent as well as being a delight to work with.”
Sherina joined our practice in January 2009 from a leading US firm, where she spent over six years as an associate in the London office. In 2008, she was seconded to the legal department of the Tata Group and the Indian Hotels Group (Taj Hotels) in Mumbai, India. Sherina has a Master of Laws degree from King’s College, London and qualified as a solicitor of England and Wales in 2002 whilst working at a magic circle firm in London. Prior to that she qualified as an Advocate on the Rolls of the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa in 1999 whilst working at a leading law firm in Mumbai.
